The Burning Question
by: Sep 29, 2008 Print

Harper has no soul, Layton is un-electable and Dion is a sock puppet - which leaves few choices, all of them grim, as industry folk head to the polls on Oct. 14. But you gotta pick someone, right? So we ask:

"Who are you voting for and why?"

Voting Harper. The government doesn't write my screenplays, so I'm not censored. Just give me tax shelters so I can make cinema crap or succeed measured against my own needs and commitments.
Jacob Medjuck,
Writer/director, Summerhood

Liberal all the way. Canada has earned its spot as one of the world's top exporters of kids entertainment. We can't afford to choke off cultural funding now - and the Conservatives will definitely do that.
Tom McGillis,
President, Fresh TV

I am voting NDP... As a gay, native performance artist I fear that I will completely perish under one more term of Conservatives in Ottawa.
Candy J. Palmater,
Host, The Candy Show

As long as the Liberal Party insists on having a cardboard cutout as a leader, Stephen Harper has my vote.
Matthew Campagna,
Co-writer/co-director, Six Reasons Why

What we desperately need are leaders we can admire, that inspire, challenge and provoke us, that deeply appreciate the crucial role of the arts and artists in the nurturing of Canadian society and culture. Where are the Pearsons, Trudeaus and Lewises of today? My son wears an Obama button for inspiration.
Peter Raymont,
Executive producer, co-creator, The Border

I haven't firmly decided...However, I will say this: I am definitely not voting for the Conservatives.
Nicole Brooks,
Docmaker, A Linc in Time

I'm going to vote Green. I really love their tea. Also, I understand that they will implement a tax credit for investment into the arts. Oh, and I love the Incredible Hulk. Go Green!
Craig Lauzon,
Actor, writer, Royal Canadian Air Farce, Bull
