The surreal tale of Nemo, a Canada/France/Belgium/Germany coproduction about the only mortal alive in Earth's future, has started the European leg of its shoot and will make a three-week stop in Montreal this fall.

Filming of Mr. Nobody, which stars Jared Leto (Requiem for a Dream) and Sarah Polley (The Secret Life of Words), began in Belgium in June and will start its 25-day Quebec shoot on Sept. 8. The English-language film's Canadian producer is Montreal-based Christal Films.

The film, which has a budget of 33 million Euros, is written and directed by Jaco Van Dormael (The Eighth Day). Canadian actors Clare Stone, Michael Riley and Emily Tilson will also make appearances.

Mr. Nobody is set in 2092 on Mars, a planet that has become a trendy vacation destination. Humans, thanks to advances in genetics, have achieved immortality - everyone, that is, except for the 120-year-old Nemo, whose pending death has become a star attraction for solar-system tourists.

The producers behind the film include Somebody Production from France, Belgium's Toto & Co. Films, plus Mr. Nobody Deutschland and Lago Film in Germany. Mr. Nobody will be distributed by Pathé in France, Concorde in Germany, Belga Films in Belgium and Christal in Canada.
