Insight in on Tortured
by: May 28, 2007 Print

The cameras of Insight Film Studios are on a roll this spring as three MOWs and one full-length feature - all thrillers - lens in B.C.'s lower mainland.

Tortured, a psychological crime feature starring Laurence Fishburne (The Matrix, Mystic River) and Cole Hauser (White Oleander) went into action on May 14. Fishburne plays an accountant to the mob who winds up in a torture chamber.

The film, penned and directed by Nolan Lebovitz (Dr. Benny), is produced by Insight boss Kirk Shaw, Adam Lebovitz (Dr. Benny, Looking for My Brother) of Five Star Pictures and Mary Aloe (Battle in Seattle) of Proud Mary Entertainment.

Paradigm will rep the North American rights and Voltage Pictures will handle foreign sales. It is slated for domestic and international release in 2008. Paradigm, which reps the Lebovitz brothers, Fishburne and Huaser, packaged the film.

Post Mortem, an MOW with Beverley Mitchell of 7th Heaven and Forever Knight's Geraint Wyn Davies, started shooting on location in Maple Ridge, east of Burnaby, in early April. The noir thriller directed by George Mendeluk (Judicial Indiscretion) is a nod to Michelangelo Antonioni's 1966 classic Blowup and will air on Lifetime Network in the U.S. this fall.

Two more MOWs - Perfect Child and Devil's Diary - went to camera on May 9 and 10, respectively. Perfect Child tells the story of a not-so-perfect kid who has murder on her mind. Inked by James Phillips, directed by Terry Ingram (To Have and to Hold), it stars Rebecca Budig (All My Children), Lochlyn Munro (Smallville) and Nicole Munoz (The Last Mimzy). It is slated to air this summer on Lifetime.

Devil's Diary, another thriller, follows two friends who unearth an ancient book with supernatural powers. Starring Alexz Johnson (Instant Star), Magda Apanowicz (The L Word) and Deanna Casaluce (Degrassi: The Next Generation), it is expected to run in early fall on Lifetime, Alliance Atlantis and Sun TV.
