Urban takes over Casablanca audio space
by: Mar 6, 2006 Print

Magnetic North is getting out of the audio post-production sector, and Urban Post Production is taking over its audio facilities.

The Toronto post shop formerly known as Casablanca Magnetic North, created in 2004 when Mag North acquired Casablanca to beef up its audio capabilities, is reverting to its Magnetic North moniker and focusing on its video post business. Last month, the shop put some of its surplus equipment up for sale in a public auction.

"Magnetic North has always supplied the finest services in picture post-production and will continue to do so for many years to come," writes Mag North president and owner Bruce Grant in an e-mail sent out to clients.

International companies Deluxe and Technicolor, both with Toronto offices, have recently made a stronger push into the domestic production market, providing a challenge for mid-size Canadian shops.

For Urban, the forthcoming move to the first floor of 22 Boston Avenue represents an expansion.

"Our clients will continue to enjoy the personal approach we bring, and will now benefit from our larger and more comfortable space," Urban said in a release.

Urban is set to launch its operations from the former CMN audio facility as of April 1. It will also keep its current picture and sound editing facility at 137 Berkeley Street.
