Vancouver: The Collector, a sophomore series for CHUM shot in Vancouver by No Equal Entertainment, collected another 30 Leo Award nominations for 2005 - set to be celebrated May 27 and 28 - upping substantially the record-setting 21 nods from last year.

The supernatural hour-long series picked up a best series nomination, along with multiple noms for directors (four), picture editing (three), sound editing (two), score (two), makeup (two), guest actor (four), and guest actress (three). Producer Larry Sugar earned a director nomination, while coproducers Jon Cooksey and Ali Marie Matheson picked up a writing nomination and star Chris Kramer was noticed in the lead actor category.

New series Stargate Atlantis was the second most-nominated drama series with 11 nods, including best series, picture editing, sound, visual effects and production design. Peter DeLuise was nominated for directing and twice for writing on Atlantis, while the series picked up nominations for supporting actors David Nykl and Paul McGillion and supporting actress Allison Hosik.

Rounding out the best drama nominations were Robson Arms (nine nominations) and Godiva's (eight nominations). Longtime series Da Vinci's Inquest, which is being reincarnated as Da Vinci's City Hall this fall, and Cold Squad, which exited this year, where absent from the drama series nominations.

CTV hit Corner Gas earned eight noms in the music, comedy or variety program category, including best program, direction (David Storey), screenwriting (Brent Butt, Andrew Carr) and all five nominees in the performance category - Butt, Fred Ewanuick, Gabrielle Miller, Janet Wright and Nancy Robertson. (While shot in Saskatchewan, all the Corner Gas principals are B.C. residents. The awards are for B.C. residents on any production.)

Feature film Desolation Sound led the nominations race in the feature-length production category, picking up 12 nominations, including best production, director, screenwriting, cinematography, score and actress. Ill-Fated was a close second with 11 nominations, including best production, director, screenwriting, cinematography, actor and actress. Hallmark television miniseries EarthSea also picked up 11 nominations in the feature-length race, mainly in the technical categories.

Rounding out the best feature-length production nominations are the animated program Dragons: Fire & Ice (four noms), The Love Crimes of Gillian Guess (eight noms) and It's All Gone Pete Tong (three noms).

The always-rich documentary category features a whopping 20 nominated programs, with festival favorites leading the race. The National Film Board nature doc Being Caribou earned six nominations, including best nature/environment/ adventure/science/technology documentary, director, writing, cinematography and score. Scared Sacred scored five nominations, including the best history/biography/ social/political documentary, director and writing.

Arts/performing arts documentaries Drawing Out the Demons and Prisoners also earned five nominations.
