by: Apr 26, 2004 Print

The Canadian documentary that skewers corporate (ir)responsibility is doing blockbuster business - Vancouver-made feature The Corporation earned $1,026,000 in Canada over the April 16 weekend, becoming the most successful all-Canadian doc in history.

"We have only begun to exploit the global marketplace and we look forward to rapidly increasing profits and exponentially expanding market share," says executive producer Mark Achbar, speaking in corporatese.

International sales agent Films Transit has inked theatrical deals with distributors in the U.K., France, Italy, Greece, South Korea, Japan and Australia. New York-based Zeitgeist Films will release the film theatrically in the U.S. this summer, beginning June 4 at San Francisco's Castro theater and June 30 at Film Forum in New York.

The Corporation won the Documentary Audience Award for World Cinema at Sundance and the Audience Award at the Thessaloniki doc fest in Greece.
