Canwest unveiled more fall acquisitions late Friday, including 90210, a remake of the '90s teen show Beverly Hills, 90210, and buzzed-about drama Life on Mars, based on the BBC series.

In all, Canwest announced seven new dramas and four comedies, though series including the Christian Slater-starrer My Own Worst Enemy, comedy Kath & Kim, actioner Knight Rider and a spinoff of The Office were picked up ahead of the L.A. screenings in a separate deal with NBC Universal earlier this month.

Canadian Shenae Grimes (Degrassi: The Next Generation) stars in The CW's 90210, about a Kansas-raised sister and brother who begin life at West Beverly Hills High School. The drama also features Jennie Garth of the original Beverly Hills, 90210.

Life on Mars is about a modern-day police detective who is transported back to 1973 following a car crash. The BBC version garnered positive reviews, and ABC teamed up with U.K.-based Kudos Film and Television for the American version starring Jason O'Mara (Resident Evil: Extinction) and Rachelle Lefevre (Prom Wars).

Canwest also acquired NBC's The Philanthropist -- ordered straight to series with no pilot by the U.S. network -- about a vigilante billionaire who uses his wealth and power to help those in need. Cast members are yet to be announced.

Other new dramas for fall are the murder mystery Harper's Island, from CBS, and Fox's supernatural series Dollhouse, about living dolls whose minds are controlled to solve crimes.

Canwest will also air fresh comedies including Fox's animated Sit Down, Shut Up, starring Will Arnett, Jason Bateman and Cheri Oteri, and Worst Week, about a clumsy magazine editor, set to air on CBS in the U.S.

"We look forward to rolling out another season of hit-filled primetime schedules with the addition of this year's hottest new shows," said Canwest EVP of content Barbara Williams in a release.

Canwest will unveil its primetime schedule for 2008/09 on June 4.
